Your trail plan for the weekend

Hi there,

If you’ve got a little time this week, there’s a short hike near Brevard that ends somewhere special: a waterfall you can actually walk behind. Below you’ll also find an easy stroll near Mount Mitchell and a moderate loop above the French Broad River, in case you want options.

Moore Cove Falls Trail

Moore Cove Falls Trail is about 1.5 miles round trip and rated easy to moderate, making it manageable for most hikers with a bit of time to spare. The trailhead is a simple pullout on US-276 north of Brevard, so parking is right along the road rather than a formal lot. The payoff is a 50-foot waterfall, and the trail actually lets you walk behind the falling water for a different view of the forest beyond it.

Why go this weekend

This trail lets you stand behind the curtain of water and look back out through it, a different perspective from the one you get at the base of most waterfalls. It’s a manageable distance for an afternoon outing.

Before you leave

Conditions can change, so check the official page for current trail conditions before you go. Parking is a pullout on US-276, not a dedicated lot, so plan to share the space with other visitors.
