Trail Overview
The Shut-In Trail, built by George Vanderbilt in the 1890s to connect Biltmore House to his Buck Spring hunting lodge, is now a long-distance hiking trail co-aligned with the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. It features a historic Vanderbilt-era route through dense rhododendron thickets, now part of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail.
Where It Is
Buck Spring Gap Overlook (Blue Ridge Parkway Milepost 407.6) or the Mount Pisgah parking area, ending near the French Broad River at NC 191, Pisgah Ranger District, NC.
