Trail Overview

The Shut-In Trail, built by George Vanderbilt in the 1890s to connect Biltmore House to his Buck Spring hunting lodge, is now a long-distance hiking trail co-aligned with the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. It features a historic Vanderbilt-era route through dense rhododendron thickets, now part of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail.
