Hiking Near Hendersonville, NC
Hendersonville sits between Asheville and Brevard — a low-key base with DuPont State Forest, easy summit hikes, and apple country all within 20 minutes.
Hendersonville trades the crowds of Asheville for a walkable Main Street and cheaper rooms, without giving up much on access. DuPont State Forest's waterfall network is 25 minutes west, Jump Off Rock and its ridge view is 10 minutes from downtown, and Bearwallow Mountain's short climb to a bald and a fire tower is about 20 minutes north.
In fall the surrounding orchards open for U-pick, which makes it an easy base for a trip that mixes hiking with something slower.

Private campgrounds north toward Asheville with full hookups and a 20-minute drive to DuPont.
DuPont-adjacent campgrounds
Family campgrounds along Cascade Lake Road and US-276 put you minutes from the High Falls and Triple Falls trailheads.
Crab Creek Road
Private sites near Holmes Educational State Forest, well placed for the quieter western trails and a short hop to Brevard.
Getting there & when to go
Getting there
Directly on I-26 at exits 49–54, 30 minutes south of Asheville and 25 minutes east of Brevard. Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) is 15 minutes north.
Best season
Year-round. DuPont's waterfalls are best in spring; the orchards and cooler air make September and October the busiest and best stretch. Summer stays a touch warmer here than in the higher towns.
